It’s been a week, and we’re still riding the high of being part of the 2023 Brooklyn Horror Film Festival.
Sometimes there’s a feeling-out process with any new guests on a podcast. Some people will give short answers and require lots of prompts to keep the conversation going. Larry Fessenden, unsurprisingly, is not one of those people. Larry is a natural-born storyteller, and each answer he gave during our session was a delightful marriage of industry insights, past and present.
Also, his respect and admiration for Adam Wingard, Simon Barrett, Joe Swanberg, Amy Seimetz, and AJ Bowen took center stage during our A Horrible Way To Die conversation. Nothing more fun than listening to filmmakers gush about filmmakers.
(But the highlight of the day for me? After Larry mentioned his appreciation for Antonia Bird’s Ravenous during the discussion, I was able to show him my Ravenous tattoo. I think he was genuinely more impressed by that than any of the questions I asked.)
As with everything else we do for the site, our annual trips to the Brooklyn Horror Film Festival are a labor of love. There’s no stipend for attending for us — both travel and transportation comes out of pocket — but our long-time listeners know that both Donato and I have deep roots in New York. There’s just no better place to be in the fall.
